When the idea of starting my own clothing line first popped into my head, I knew I wanted to work with the fabrics I love most: soft, organic, and, above all, natural materials. And with unique designs and styles that are timeless yet modern. I think I've managed to pull it off ;)
More and more people are paying attention: where is my clothing made? Because of course we don't want child labor and exploitation of the workers on our conscience. Made in Asia sounds negative, while Made in Europe must be good. But is that true? And how do you find out? If you dive deeper into the world of clothing factories, you will find out that labeling factories as 'good' or 'bad' is not that simple.
New Angels is my small Dutch clothing brand, dedicated to sustainable, ethical, and animal-friendly fashion. Only the finest organic and ecological fabrics are used. Each item is fairly made (partly by myself) and always 100% vegan.
Ramie is a wonderful natural substance. A linen-like fabric that falls under the cellulose fibers, or natural plant fibers. Made from the bark of the Chinese nettle. Ramie is an eco-friendly fabric that is very durable compared to cotton or man-made (synthetic) fibres. The plant is naturally fungicidal and has few problems with insects, so pesticides and chemicals are not necessary. This makes it an environmentally friendly and ecological crop. Ramie is also known as ramee, Chinese linen, Chinese grass linen and Rhae.
Vegan is associated with vegan food. That's not surprising, because vegan menus are becoming more and more famous. However, a vegan lifestyle, veganism, is more than that. It is a way of life without using and exploiting animals. In other words, no wool sweater and no leather shoes. There is an alternative for everything nowadays. Every year, billions of animals worldwide are killed for their fur, hair, wool or skin. That can be done differently.
